INTERVIEW WITH KATE WEEKS, INDUSTRIAL DIVISIONAL MANAGER

Leigh Duke

Kate’s initial working experience was in retail. Until, in her mid 20’s and looking for a new position, Kate walked into a recruitment agency. Expecting to be placed in call centre, the agency obviously saw something in Kate as they asked her if she’d ever thought about a job in recruitment. That was 20 years ago…

When did you join Amour Recruitment?

December 2022

What divisions have you managed in the past? Temporary, or permanent?

I’ve managed temporary industrial, driving and construction. I looked after industrial for the longest and it was always my favourite division.

Tell me about the temp training you deliver.

It’s very much ‘on the job’ training with the industrial desk. I work closely with the consultants, helping them to make the most of their time and how to prioritise.

Tell me what makes someone the perfect temporary candidate.

Someone who can talk easily about their previous experience and wants to work with you to gain the right role.

What are your strengths?

Building and maximising my existing client relationships. Working with the team and helping consultants exceed their potential.

What has been your best highlight so far?

Growing the Industrial desk and working with so many new clients.

What has been your biggest challenge so far?

There are many challenges that we have to deal with on a daily basis. Candidates will let us down and we don’t like to let our clients down. We have to be honest and solve any issues in the best way we know how to.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy the variety, every day is different, with no day being the same.

How do you see your role developing over the next 5 years?

Over the next 5 years I would like to grow the industrial team and be seen as a the ‘go to’ person for help within the company.

How would you clients and candidates describe you?

As an honest person who tries hard to resolve any issues. And as hard working and reliable.

Who and what inspires you in life?

My two young children keep me motivated to always work my hardest and to do my best.

After 20 years in recruitment, what 3 tips would you give to somebody joining the industry now?

•    Recruitment is tough – don’t expect to know everything.
•    There will be days where nothing goes right for you – be resilient and ready to go again the next day.
•    Work life balance is so important – Amour has proved to me that there are companies out there who promote time to be with your family when you need to.
