Maxine Fitzgerald

Founder and Managing Director

The joy, the integrity and the loving support that people find at Amour all radiates from Max.

She started her career in recruitment as a consultant in temporary work at one of the high street corporate companies, and was rapidly promoted to branch manager. She retains a great respect for the support network she found there, and the way the managers worked so closely together.

It was when she left to join a regional owner-managed agency, to cover for a manager’s maternity leave, that Max’s career really took off.

Once her colleague returned, the MD offered Max the opportunity to stay and set up a new Office & Professional division. Max says, “I worked relentlessly setting it up with my colleague, and together, we developed many enduring working relationships that remain today.”

Whilst still running Office & Professional, Max spent a further two years working with the Industrial division at the agency; her role encompassed new business development, client management, staff development, mentor and, at times, Mum!

She reminisces, “I loved my team. They were everything you could ask for; hardworking, loyal and not scared to challenge me. This really developed me as a leader.”

When the agency was sold, Max took the opportunity to join the new owners to set up a branch in Cardiff, also helping to develop a Commercial desk across a number of branches up and down the UK.

It was at this point, Max decided to work for herself, and with a strong vision for a different way of working, she set up Amour.

“I have been lucky to have a team of people who really share my beliefs.

“We know that a candidate’s potential is not restricted to what they have done in the past. It is based on who they are; on what drives them and on what they want to achieve not only in their career, but also in their personal life.

“I have a powerful desire to give my team the freedom to speak up if they don’t agree and this means we all develop emotionally, a gift that will stay with us forever,” she explains.

Max’s Amours include her children. She is driven by setting examples and values for them, not just talking about it, but demonstrating to them by how she does what she believes in.

And her love and positivity extend to the world. “I genuinely want to have a positive impact on everybody I come into contact with, whether it’s the lady at the bus stop who later tells her friends about the smiley person she met, or a complete stranger who feels better for having shared something with me, even though I was supposed to be doing something else. I never want to judge people’s worries. What might be a huge mountain to one person, could be a molehill to another and vice versa.”

Max loves her caravan and often gets called ‘the crazy bats!*t caravan lady’ by her friends. She takes herself off at weekends and reads a book whilst sipping Champagne. She used to have a car full of children and spent days in Dorset, having a ball doing whatever they wanted. But they are at that age now where it’s no longer a cool thing to do, and Max still isn’t over that!

She can be a sensible Mum – but is equally likely to be found dancing on a bar when on holiday with the girls.
